Prince Paul Adelabu, Joint National Association of Persons With Disability (JONAPWD) Board of Trustees chairman is dead.
A source who paid a condolence visit to the family says the late BOT chairman’s son, Mr. Dare narrated how his father died.
According to Dare, it all started when the late Prince complained of malaria fever on Tuesday. On visiting the hospital, Doctor said his sugar level was too high and the following day, Wednesday, he became weak he had to be taken to the hospital.
Unfortunately, he was denied admission into the hospitals visited. Reason given was that Prince Adelabu was a public figure. Adeoyo Hospital rejected him on the grounds that they don’t admit adults by 10pm.
He was moved to UCH where he was also rejected. UCH said they don’t admit patients around 12am. Prince had to pass a night at a hospital in Agbowo. He was again brought to UCH at 5am but was rejected. Jericho Hospital was the next port of call where he was yet again rejected. It was while on the way to another hospital that Prince Paul Adelabu died in his car on Thursday 29th July, 2021 by UCH Agodi Gate Road at 10am.
Adelabu died aged 59, just three days to his 60th birthday which he was planning to celebrate on Sunday, 1st August.
Until his demise, Prince was the chairman, Board of Trustees (BOTs) JONAPWD.
He was former Special Assistant on Disability affairs to the immediate past Governor of Oyo State, late Senator Abiola Ajimobi.
He served as principal to the Rehabilitation Center for people with disabilities in Moniya, Ibadan.
He was a social worker and one of the prominent members of Nigeria Association of Social Workers (NASoW), Oyo State chapter.
Adelabu will forever be remembered as one of the people who championed for a better life for People with Disabilities in Nigeria. He, likewise, was a father figure to several youths and People with Disabilities.
He was the founder and pioneer President of Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities, JONAPWD, the Umbrella body of People with Disabilities in the country.

The sudden demised of our philanthropist in the community of people leaving with Disabilities is too painful and it’s a great loss to PWD’S in Nigeria. What bathful us most is the issues of his rejection in most of the prominent hospitals in Ibadan where he lived. Its a barbaric act on the part of the hospitals he was taken to. I have never seen or heard that hospital management rejected patient because of late hours. I am using this medium to appeal to all People With Disabilities in Nigeria to critically examine how we have been treated in our dear Country. We shouldn’t fold our halms and be watching as we have been maginalized in cruel manner like this. PWD’S in Nigeria must rise against this barbaric act. All the hospitals management must sue in the court of law , all the culprit must be punished.
