Disability Rights Action Group [DRAG] has commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for promoting inclusive governance with the recent appointment of Adenike Dasola Oyetunde as Senior Special Assistant on Persons With Disabilities.
The executive director, Chukwu Chikwado disclosed this in a statement made available to our correspondent on Wednesday.
He said the recent appointment attests to an increasing awareness on the need for an inclusive society.
“This is indeed work in progress. Establishing Government offices to cater for the wellbeing of Persons With Disabilities is one thing and appointing the right people to occupy such offices is another.
“Looking at the profile of Adenike Oyetunde, one cannot but notice her passion and struggle for the full inclusion and participation of Persons With Disabilities in mainstream society.
“I believe she is going to use her office to call attention of the Governor to the various Disability rights issues affecting the lives of Persons With Disabilities in the state. Generally, PWDs are often marginalized and excluded from political and public life. While I congratulate the new appointee, I hope this appointment marks a turnaround for good”.
Chikwado used the opportunity to admonish other State Governors to emulate Mr Sanwo-olu.
“As custodians of the people’s mandate, they should actively promote an environment in which Persons With Disabilities can effectively and fully participate in the conduct of public affairs without discrimination. Once again, big congratulations to Ms Adenike Dasola Oyetunde.”
