Inclusive News Network, your number one on-line media for disability news and reportage recently helped secure financial support for a Deaf lady who couldn’t afford to send her children to school.
Mrs. Mariam Iwuchukwu Ogechi, a mother of four, three of whom are deaf earlier had an interview with INN on November 16, 2020. In that interview, she told how she was abandoned by her husband and in-laws for having 3 deaf kids. Since then, she had been solely responsible for the upkeep of the children with her meagre income.
Unable to meet up with the demands of raising four children on her own, Mrs Iwuchukwu has been pleading for assistance from individuals and Organizations around her.
Recently, Iwuchukwu told INN that she had been unable to send her children to school this year.
The children’s school, according to her, had resumed on 18th January and she needed the sum of ₦18,000 for school fees, failure to pay of which they were denied entry into the school premises.

Iwuchukwu said the #18,000 was a compulsory advance fee which guarantees some grace period for the balance. Without it, they won’t be allowed into the school compound. It is the law.
Continuing, the distraught mother said: “what I am looking for now is the school fee, I have managed to gather their provisions. The fee for the three is #18,000. Please sir, I need help”.
Moved by Iwuchukwu’s plight, INN went all out in search of support for her. Fortunately, the Chidi Topaz Olujie Foundation (CTO), made a donation of ₦15,000 to help cover some of the costs of sending the children to school.
On receiving the money, an elated Iwuchukwu couldn’t hide her joy. She profusely thanked Chidi Topaz Olujie Foundation and INN for the support.
She said “I am using the money to pay their fees right away. There still remains #3000 to complete it. Actually, I need more than that. But the children’s school fee is what is uppermost in mind. In all, I need up to #30,000 to meet other pressing necessities”.
Iwuchukwu appealed to the Government and Private Organizations to come to her aid with scholarships so her children can complete their education.
