Gov. Ganduje includes PWDs in Kano State’s 2021 Budget

Image Description: Meet a remarkably Disability friendly Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State. Complete in white voluminous attire topped off with a red cap embroidered in white, the chocolate complexioned Governor's broad smile reveals a distinct gap tooth. The photo background is brown and from a corner one may notice the Nigerian coat of arms.

People with Disabilities have been vividly captured in the 2021 budget of Kano State.

This much was affirmed by The Director of Planning at the State Ministry of Planning and Budget, Alhaji Muntari Ado Yakassai on Monday when leadership of the National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) led by the Northwest Zonal Coordinator, National Association of Persons with Physical Disabilities (NAPWPD) and Chairperson, NAWOJ Kano, Bilkisu Ado Zango paid him a courtesy call in his office.

This kind of development is a clear indication that Persons With Disabilities are being factored into a budget sub code under the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development. It is something to cheer about and leverage on by stake-holders of Disability rights in the country.

It is pertinent to note at this point that this achievement owes largely to the resilient advocacy of Kano State PWDs. PWDs in other States of the Federation will therefore do well to pick inspiration from the Kano success. This will expedite formulation and implementation of more Disability friendly policies and projects across the nation.
