The Gombe State Government has recently distributed palliatives directly to the Joint Association of persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Gombe State.
The palliatives were distributed after PWDs in the State lamented about being excluded from the first and second batches of palliatives shared among households through the Committee set up by the Government.
INN gathered that the materials distributed include Rice, sugar, packets of tomatoes, maize etc.
The materials were discharged through the Cluster Heads of PWDs in the 11 LGAs and they had already shared it among their members.
Recall that the Publicity Secretary of Gombe State Association of the Deaf and Disabled Right Activist and advocate, Comr. Yusuf Kumo, had written an article requesting the government and the Committee to release the palliative for PWDs directly through the Joint Association of PWDs because by releasing it directly to JONAPWD office, the items was sure to get to all those concerned.
Kumo also stressed the need to establish a Disability Right Commission or an Agency for PWDs where all issues relating to Persons with Disabilities will be fully addressed.
The government and the committee had since sent palliative materials directly to the Joint Association of PWDs two days before Sallah Celebration which included two cows to make it easier for sallah celebration.
In a related development, the Northeast Development Commission has last week released palliative directly to the Joint Association of PWDs in Gombe State through the cluster heads of PWDs in the 11 LGAs. For instance in every LGA each of the 4 Clusters (the Deaf, the Blind, the persons with physical Disabilities and persons with Leprosy) got 3 bags of rices, half bag of beans, Maggi, Salts, etc.
