The Joint Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), have called on employers of labour in public and private organisations to ensure that persons with disabilities constitutes at least five percent of their employment quota in compliance with the Act.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on the update of disability matters in Nigeria, National President, JONAPWD, Ekaete Judith Umoh commended President Muhammadu Buhari over the full implementation of Disability Act with the establishment of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) along with appointments of its members of council.

Ms Umoh stated that she wants persons with disabilities to put all hands on deck for the realisation of the lofty goals and aspirations.

“The commission is enjoined to begin immediate delivery of the above mentioned objective to positively impact PWDs in Nigeria”.

She called on the Federal Ministry of Information to make immediate provisions for promotion of awareness regarding the rights, respect and dignity of PWDs.

“The Presidency as well as the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development are called upon to in line with their oversight functions give necessary directives that will guarantee budgetary provisions for the immediate and smooth take off of the commission”, she said.

She further called on partners and donors to continue to support PWDs in Nigeria.
