The Executive Secretary, National Commission for Persons With Disabilities, Mr James David Lalu recently in his office at Raph Shodeinde Street Abuja, received in audience a delegation from the Joint National Association of Persons With Disabilities (JONAPWD) and Sightsavers who had come on a working visit to the Commission and to submit the Resolutions reached during a meeting of the two groups.

The Resolutions have 5 thematic areas, including Capacity Strengthening of PWDs, Inclusive Education, Adaptivity to Changing Climate and Livelihood, Access to Education by Children, Involvement in Policy Design and Monitoring.

Speaking at the meeting, the ES expressed gratitude to the group for identifying with the commission.

He assured them that the 5 thematic areas will be carefully considered and forwarded to the appropriate authority for further action and promised that all relevant stakeholders in the Disability community will be carried along in all facets of the fight against the discrimination of Persons with Disabilities.

In response, the spokesman of Sightsavers Mr. Rasaq Adekoya emphasized that the reason behind the Resolutions is to transform the labour market system to be more inclusive of PWDs in all relevant employability, vocational and digital training for Youths with disabilities.

He further said that the underscored disability extra cost and Data mechanism are mainstreamed into all social protection intervention programmes.

In the same vein, the Women leader of JONAPWD, Betty Mokpe opined that the importance of empowering women and the girl- child in the society cannot be overemphasized.

“The female folks are the most susceptible in the community of Persons with Disabilities all over the world and as such must be adequately provided for” she said.
