Presidential aspirant of the Nigeria National Association of the Deaf (NNAD), Chidi Olujie has expressed his willingness to work on improved welfare, education, scholarships and employment for Deaf members in Nigeria.
He said this while addressing Deaf youths in a gathering on his final campaign rally of United Peace and Progress Team (UPP-T) in FCT on Thursday.
“When we are elected, we will work for your welfare and improved education”
“Some students want to go to school but no sponsorship. We together with our team will work and engage government to provide sponsorships for our education”
He referred to Abuja Association of the Deaf (AAD) as “very special”, saying “almost everyone (in Deaf community) is AAD, we can’t conclude our campaign rally without first coming to Abuja to give our special respect”.
The current National Secretary General (NSG) of the association also assured of job opportunities for Deaf youths.
He said, “when I was working at the Federal Ministry of Education, several people got jobs and were sent to other states from Abuja. With this we can come to Abuja to engage federal government (on employment for Deaf Youths) and pray that they answer us”.
Olujie, who was a candidate for House of Assembly in his home town in Ukwa East, Abia State under the umbrella body of People Democracy Party (PDP) during the last election, lauded the party for fighting the ruling party, APC to ensure the passage of Disability Bill, while thanking the APC for implementing the law.
“We have different backgrounds coming together to make it work better” he concluded.
