Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has received and publicly acknowledged the disaggregated data of persons with Disabilities (PWDs) received from Inclusive Friends Association (IFA) for Edo Election.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu acknowledged this at the stakeholders meeting ahead of the September 19 Edo Governorship election in Edo State on Tuesday.
Inclusive News Network, INN learnt that the data was handed over to the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Alalibo Sinikiem Johnson on Tuesday.
The data is expected to aid in preparation for deployment of assistive voting materials to polling units for persons with disabilities ahead of the Edo elections this Saturday 19th September and to update the voters register ahead of the upcoming elections.
Earlier, the INEC had agreed to assist IFA in disaggregated data gathering of voters with Disabilities (VWDs) in 13 states.
This was disclosed in a letter addressed to IFA on the 12th August, 2020 signed by Rose Oriaran Anthony (Secretary to the Commission).
The INEC was expected to assist IFA in the areas of Publishing sensitization messages for the data collection exercise on INEC’s Television, Radio and Social Media Platform, Assigning PWD Desk Officers in the twelve (12) states to assist in data collection of PWDs that would visit INEC offices during the period and Facilitating a meeting of IFA representatives and the relevant Departments (ICT, VR and VEP) to discuss methodology.
