There are high hopes that the Disability Bill in Sokoto State will soon become a law as it passed its second reading at the State House of Assembly on Friday.
At the House plenary presided by the Deputy Speaker, Abubakar Magaji, Sponsor of the bill and member representing Shagari Constituency Hon. Alhaji Maidawa as well as the co-sponsor, Hon. Abubakar Magaji, representing Bodinga North Constituency presented a Bill for a Law to Provide for the Prohibition of Discrimination Against Persons with disabilities and for Matters Connected Therewith, 2020 (P.M.B – 3 – 2020) for second reading.
The duo prayed to the lawmakers to allow the Bill to get its Second reading and subsequent referral to the relevant committee.
INN gathered that some lawmakers contributed positively on the Bill including Hon. Bello Idris of Gwadabawa North Constituency; Hon. Malami Ahmed Mohammed Basakkwace of Sokoto South II Constituency; Abdullahi Muhammad Randa of Tureta Constituency and Hon. Kabiru Dauda of Gada East Constituency.
Deputy Speaker, Magaji put the question and agreed to, the Hon. House unanimously agreed to give the Bill its 2nd reading.
The Bill accordingly, got its 2nd reading.
The Bill was referred to House Committee on Social Welfare, Culture & Poverty Alleviation and was given one Month after Recess within which to report back to the House.
The Hon Leader of the House from the All Progressives Congress (APC), moved a motion for adjournment of plenary until Tuesday 25th August, 2020 by 10:00a.m.
