With the Federal Government approving recruitment of about 774,000 unemployed and unskilled workers, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), the Centre for Disability Issues, has said the government should allocate more than 15 per cent of the jobs (116,100) to people living with disabilities.
A statement by the Coordinator, Comrade Kehinde Oshilaja, hailed President Muhammadu Buhari for insisting that the recruitment should go on and should be coordinated by the Minister of State for Labour, Mr. Festus Keyamo.
“We are grateful to the President and members of the Federal Executive Council for taking this decision, which portrays our President as being unbiased,” he said.
Oshilaja said the NGO comprised people living with disabilities, adding that he wanted their members to be included in the exercise.
“Our members have been neglected in national employment in the past, noting that they should be remembered this time,” he said.
Oshilaja said if the people living with disabilities were taken care of, none would roam the streets begging for alms.
The NGO expressed gratitude to its patrons, Alhaji Lateef Olanrewaju Sodiq, Ojora of Ijora Kingdom Oba Fatai Aromire and Alhaji Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi for their generosity.
