Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State on Tuesday, flagged-off the distribution of the Private Sectors Coalition against COVID-19 (CACOVID) palliative donated for the vulnerable and indigent families in the state.
Flagging off distribution of the palliatives at Queens School, Enugu, Ugwuanyi acknowledged CACOVID for the palliative.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the items include bags of rice, Garri, pasta, sugar, salt and others.
The CACOVID on May 5 donated 100 beds and its accessories to the isolation centres in Enugu State.
”We are happy to acknowledge another support from the CACOVID and let you know that Enugu State delivered the first palliative to the isolation centres and quarters.
”All the palliatives from the Federal Government have been delivered to the appropriate places to curtail the spread of Coronavirus,” he said.
Ugwuanyi assured CACOVID that the items would get to the targeted audience and appreciated those that had been donating relief materials to the state.
The member representing CACOVID, Mrs Chika Mbagwu, noted that the association had continued to support the government in its fight against COVID-19.
”Since the outbreak of this pandemic, the entire world have been turned into unprecedented challenge in health and economic sectors.
”Alleviating the impact of the COVID-19 crises has become vital in preventing poverty from increasing in Nigeria.
”It is in this plight that Nigeria Private Sectors formed a coalition against COVID-19 to provide support to the government through the provision of palliative items for Nigerians.
”As we all know, CACOVID is an organised private sector initiative in partnership with the Federal Government, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) World Health Organisation and other agencies, ” she said.
She said that the partnership was with the sole aim of combating COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
”CACOVID is pulling resources across industries to support the laudable achievements of governments across in the country.
”We have decided to support up to 37, 000 households in Enugu State and we will always play our part in matters that involve the state and its citizens.
”CACOVID wish to appreciate the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) United Bank for Africa (UBA) and others for their galvanising roles in this venture.
In a vote of thanks, Mrs Nkechi Nnaemeka, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked Enugu State and CACOVID for the food items.
Nnaemeka, who represented market women, appreciated the state government’s efforts in the fight against the pandemic.
She prayed that the pandemic would soon be a thing of the past as God would save the people from the deadly disease.
INN learn that the beneficiaries were market women, barrow pushers, artisans, Hausa Community, Yoruba Community, persons with disabilities and widows.
