A Lagos- based Human Rights Lawyer, Joe Nwokedi Esq has proceeded to court to challenge the presumed injustice and unconstitutional action of the federal government of Nigeria in excluding the South East geopolitical zone from its 22.7 billion US dollars loan, which the two chambers of the National Assembly (NASS) approved recently.

It will be recalled that the said loan was a subject of debate by Nigerians, many against, especially people of South East.

The said loan reportedly excluded the zone from all the projects sought to be executed with the loan.

In view of the perceived injustice against the region, Nwokedi has approached the Federal High Court Ikoyi, Lagos State, to challenge what he refers to as “brazen illegal and unlawful act of the federal government” against himself and the people of South East geopolitical zone.

The legal luminary informed News Express that also joined in the suit are National Assembly, Central Bank of Nigeria, Federal Character Commission and Attorney General of the Federation and the Minister of Justice.

Nwokedi is praying the court to award the sum of N20 billion Naira only, as general and aggravated damages suffered by himself and the people of the South East, inclusive of other prayers/reliefs sought in the suit.

Inclusive News gathered that the matter has been assigned to Hon.Justice O.A.Faji of the Federal High Court Ikoyi, Lagos State.

The case came up on June 18 but court could not sit due to heavy down pour on that day.

It was however adjourned to September 16 for hearing.

Meanwhile, Nwokedi has written to the court asking for abridgement of the date due to the urgency involved in the matter.
