A truck driver from Dangote Cement’s transportation division, Anas Ibrahim, has dragged the company to the Nigerian National Industrial Court, Kano Judicial Division, for firing him after being injured in an accident in the line of duty.
Ibrahim had told the court through his lawyer, Abba Hikima, that on July 1, 2020, while traveling on the Lagos-Abeokuta highway, an oncoming vehicle collided with the Dangote truck he was driving after unloading. cement in the company’s warehouse.
He subsequently lost consciousness and was transferred to Sango Otta General Hospital, after which he was transferred to Federal Medical Center, Abeokuta and Sir Mohammed Sunusi Specialist Hospital, Kano.
He said he suffered three broken ribs, a complex fracture to his limbs and other injuries.
According to him, the company abandoned him, refused to pay his medical bills and fired him.
Ibrahim further said that the company stopped paying his salary from August 2020 to date, leaving him in charge of his medical bills.
Therefore, he requested a court order ordering Dangote to pay him N50 million as compensation for the disabling injuries he suffered, N10m as exemplary damages and N1million as legal fees.
