Ms. Hadiza Kabir, the recently inaugurated Secretary of the Federal Capital Territory’s Social Development Secretariat (FCT), has promised greater support for the less privileged in the territory.
Kabir said this would be achieved through a training and skills acquisition program.
The secretary made the promise when she visited Karmajiji, a community that welcomes some people with physical disabilities to identify with them in their recent appointment, on Saturday in Abuja.
Kabir emphasized his commitment to improving their lives and improving their well-being through the secretariat’s Department of Social Welfare.
According to Kabir, the department of social welfare has programs and activities aimed at empowering and acquiring skills for the homeless and the physically disabled in the FCT.
The secretary pointed out that before her appointment, she had an existing relationship with the group, especially with those from Karmajiji, where she used to visit them to interact, socialize and learn about their state of well-being.
He condemned and described as unacceptable the tendency to see them begging on the streets of the FCT.
Kabir told the Head of the community to make sure to convince his subjects to desist from participating in the shameful acts of begging, as the religion of Islam strongly condemned the act.
He pointed out that there was no basis for them to beg on the streets of the FCT and engage in begging.
The secretary also promised to consolidate the accomplishments recorded in the secretariat and to work with the secretariat’s management and staff to realize its mandate, vision and mission.

“Let me request the cooperation of all SDS staff members, who are now my first family, to provide the necessary cooperation to achieve our goals and objectives,” he said.
