As the world celebrate the annual international Day of Persons with Disability which takes place every 3rd of December, the Beautiful Gate Handicapped People Center, Jos celebrate with the over one billion persons living with disabilities across the world.
This year theme of, ‘Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible, and sustainable post-COVID-19 world’ is timely given that the United Nations has stated that the global crisis of COVID-19 has deepened pre-existing inequalities, exposing the extent of exclusion and highlighting that work on disability inclusion is imperative. The report also stated that persons with disabilities are one of the most excluded groups in our society and are among the hardest hit in this crisis in terms of fatalities.”
Therefore, as countries embark on COVID-19 recovery, it is important that persons living with disabilities are involved in planning, and interventions by governments and non governmental institutions as disability inclusion will result in a COVID-19 response and recovery that better serves everyone, more fully suppressing the virus, as well as building back better.
The Beautiful Gate Handicapped People Center in a statement released on Friday said it has within it’s capabilities done a lot in respect to rehabilitating and supporting persons living with disabilities in the COVID-19 era and wish to appreciate it’s partners for their untiring support.
“Also, we wish to call on the government of Nigeria to do a lot in involving and supporting persons living with disabilities in there various COVID-19 interventions.” He said.
