Christian Mission for the Deaf Church (CMDC), Onireke, Ibadan, the headquarters of CMDC churches in Nigeria has provided food relief to its members to cushion the effects of the Coronavirus outbreak.
63 members of the church in the headquarters who live around the premises were presented with some portions of rice and beans.
The leader of the church, Evangelist Babatunde John who spoke to Inclusive News Network, INN, said that the church decided to distribute the food palliatives to their members because some of them are living in want due to COVID-19 pandemic.
According to him, some of the members could no longer fend for themselves and their families, addding that most of them work in private schools and had not been paid for months.
John said in response to the yearning of the people, the church decided to show love by distributing palliatives to their members calling it “brotherly love” according to the Bible.
“We decided to share food materials with them because they are living in want due to COVID-19 pandemic and some of them don’t have money, most of them work in private schools but they could not pay their salaries because the students have not pay school fees. We, the church leaders had to consider to show love to one another as the Bible said “Brotherly love”, he said.
On what the Oyo State Government could do to support deaf community who are going through hardship caused by the pandemic, John urged Governor Seyi Makinde to assist deaf people who are suffering and don’t have good jobs, noting that Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) suffer more than other vulnerable groups especially in the wake of Covid-19.
“I would advise Governor Makinde to do something for PWDS in Oyo state, by assisting deaf people who are suffering and don’t have good jobs, please consider and provide good jobs for them in Oyo state,” he said.
