Leadership Training For Girls With Disabilities: NDW Takes Project To Private Academy In FCT

The Network of Disabled Women (NDW) recently embarked on a project to initiate and establish leadership clubs for Young Girls with Disabilities in the FCT. The project which kicked off at Government Secondary School Kuje, Abuja on 12th October 2021, was moved to another school three days later.

To ensure continuity of the project, the group has visited yet another school in the Federal Capital Territory. At Safehost International Academy, NDW addressed a total number of 33 girls aged between 3 to 15 years.

The Objectives of the leadership project were to motivate, impact and influence Young Girls with Disabilities on the need for leadership while guiding them on the decision making process and nurturing positive attitudinal changes among them.

Lois Auta-Udonkanta, President, NDW, in an encouragement speech urged the young girls to have positive mindsets on becoming great change makers – adding that age is not a barrier to improving themselves.

Proprietress of the school, Mrs. Ngozi Belolisa says Safehost International Academy is an inclusive school majoring in the education and rehabilitation of children with Disabilities.

The event was a success, with the girls declaring readiness to take more responsibility in decision making and to drive the goal of the project by committing to effecting change.

At the project launch, the ‘Get It Right Leaders’ (GIRL) Club was inaugurated to ensure continuous impact on the students. GIRL is expected to offer Young Girls the opportunity to speak about their challenges with guidance and supervision offered by NDW members.

NDW officers are also expected to visit the club on monthly basis to ensure its sustainability and encourage more participation of Young Girls with Disabilities in Leadership.
