Jack Epelle, founder and CEO of The Albino Foundation (TAF), has been elected President, Albinism Association of Nigeria, AAN.
News of the election outcomes was revealed by Josephine Omolola, chairperson of the Association’s Electoral Committee in a press statement at the conclusion of the virtual election held on Saturday.
According to Omotola, the election was credible, free and fair. It was inclusive as delegates overwhelmingly voted candidates of their choice.
The committee set the number of States accredited at 31. Delegates numbered 155 out of which only 124 were accredited due to internet connectivity issues. Number of elective offices were set at 9 while contestants numbered 16.
Epelle emerged the newly elected President with 83 votes. Mariya Ishaka got the post of Vice President (North) with 81 votes. Olabiyi Bamidele defeated his closest rival for Vice President (South), Emeka Ugwu with 46 votes against 35. Daniel Onah emerged General Secretary of AAN with 82 votes.
Other winners are Abimbola Oluwasegun (Assistant General Secretary-elect), Nnoye Ogbuagu (Welfare Director), Abel Terma Mvendaga, (Financial Secretary), Peace Onuri (Treasurer) and Saimalai Salisu (Public Relations Officer).
Omolola, while appreciating members for voting overwhelmingly for candidates of their choice, congratulated the maiden Executives of the Association and wished them successful tenures.
