Buhari To Government Agencies: Pay Special Attention To Peculiar Needs Of PWDs

President Muhammadu Buhari has directed all government agencies to pay special attention to peculiar needs and general well-being of Persons with Disabilities in Nigeria.

The President issued the order in a nationwide broadcast to mark Nigeria’s 61st Independence Anniversary today in Abuja.

PMB says his administration is committed to the well-being of People with Disabilities and directed all government agencies to pay special attention to the peculiarities of these persons.

In the president’s words: “The commitment of this administration to the well-being of people living with disabilities remains unwavering. My government recognizes their contributions to national development and I have, in this regard, directed that all relevant Government Agencies pay special attention to the peculiarities of different abilities in the implementation of policies and programmes.”

The president also engaged Heads of Courts to establish Specialized Courts for speedy and seamless trial of Rape/Gender-Based offences in order to ensure that child victims of sexual violence get prompt justice.

He said “Rape and Gender Based Violence remains a sore point in our Nation as in many countries of the world. The already bad situation has worsened during and after the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are currently engaging Heads of Courts to establish Specialized Courts for the speedy and seamless trial of Rape/Gender-Based offences especially to ensure that justice is done for child victims of sexual violence”, the President said.
