Gombe State Association of the Deaf has called on Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya to establish an agency for Persons with Disabilities in the State. This, the association believes would facilitate overall progress and development of the State’s PWDs.
In a statement released on behalf of the association, its Secretary General, Yusuf Mohammed Lawan, said “the Governor, while receiving PWDs in Government house in commemoration of International Day of Persons with Disabilities two years ago had assured Gombe State PWDs of his readiness to establish an Agency for PWDs to cater to their welfare and give them a sense of belonging.
The Governor’s remarks was published in national dailies and corroborated by the DG, Press Affairs, Ismaila Uba Misilli in several social media posts.
The association’s statement read in part, “we appeal to His Excellency to kindly redeem his promise to us as this will go a long way in improving the lives of PWDs. While appreciating His Excellency for infrastructural development achieved within a short spell, we sincerely appeal to His Excellency to look into the sorrowful plight of PWDs in Gombe State. We believe in His Excellency’s stance for truth, justice and equality – qualities that endeared him to many in the State.” Lawan said.
