Bauchi State Agency for Persons with Disability is seeking an upgrade of its agency to Commission status. This, INN learnt was to enable it cater to the needs of increasing numbers of Persons with Disabilities in the 20 Local Government Areas of the State.
The information was disclosed at ‘a budget public hearing for citizens’ input’ hosted by Hon. Aminu Hammayo, Commissioner, Ministry of Budget and Economic planning in preparation for next year’s Budget.
The agency, in its speech expressed appreciation to the administration of Senator Bala A. Mohammed for the confidence reposed in them toward promoting good governance and welfare of the good people of Bauchi State. The group lauded the Governor as a dynamic and pragmatic leader who has earned his people’s affection.
Calls were also made for renovation of rehabilitation centers in the State, establishment of new ones, and equipping them with gym facilities to build muscles while keeping off boredom.

The group went on to demand adoption of employment quotas of the national policy on rehabilitation of PWDs which allows 5% quota as opposed to State policy on 3%.
Demands were also made on agricultural programs and other related fields to help boost local economy and financial stability.
Furthermore, requests were also made for establishment of special education departments in the State’s four tertiary institutions.
While commenting at the hearing, State Commissioner for Budget and Economic planning gave assurance that the group’s inputs will be included in the 2022 budget.
INN learnt that the invitation extended to the agency for budgetary inputs was first of its kind in the history of the State.
