Folashade Olufemiayo has expressed relief at her gold medal feat at the ongoing 2020 Paralympic Games in the Para Powerlifting -86 kg class.
Olufemiayo won a silver medal at the London 2012 Paralympic Games but was unable to participate at the 2016 Rio Games due to maternity leave.
The World Champion broke the World Record she set at the World Paralympic Championship in Manchester, England with a lift of 152 kg to become the Paralympic champion.
She told NationSport that the birth of her child in 2016 gave her so much relief and joy and had vowed to do her best to ensure she went for the ultimate prize in Tokyo, Japan.
“I feel very good and great to be a Paralympic Champion. I believed in myself and I am glad I made Nigerians proud,” Olufemiayo told NationSport. “I feel on top of the world and I am certain it was by the grace of God this was made possible. I wasn’t able to go to the last Paralympic Games because I gave birth to my child at around that time.”
