Youths, Women and Persons with Disabilities of the All Progressive Congress, Northeast zone have showered praise on President Muhammadu Buhari for establishing and adequately funding the Northeast Development Commission (NEDC) as well as for setting up a National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD).
Leaders of the group showered the encomiums in a communique issued at the just concluded APC, Northeast Youth, Women and Persons with Disabilities Stakeholders meeting held at the Bauchi Northeast Zonal Secretariat, Bauchi State.
The group also heaped praise on Buhari for the special attention and consideration given to the Northeast zone on security, economy and social development issues.
President Buhari was applauded for appointing illustrious sons and daughters of the zone to critical offices in Government. This, it was noted had helped improve the fight against Boko Haram as well as other forms of security challenges that hitherto bedeviled the zone.
Also praised was the President’s commitment to oil and gas exploration in Kolmani and other frontiers in Bauchi and Gombe State, the efforts towards actualizing the Mambila hydro electric power project in Taraba State, etc.
“We call on the president to continue with the good work in the Northeast zone by focusing on important projects, especially the Mambila hydro-power plan and implementation of the Eastern corridor rail project from Port Harcourt to Maiduguri”.
The APC group also tasked the Maimala Buni led APC caretaker/extraordinary convention planning commitee (CECPC) to make a resolute commitment to rebuilding the party.
“The Northeast APC Youth, Women and PWDs hereby congratulate the caretaker chairman and his team for successes recorded since coming onboard. Particular reference was made to the team’s success in building consensus among party members by setting up Reconciliation Committees at different levels of the party and in different States. Furthermore, the team has done well in facilitating the defection of three Executive Governors from the opposition PDP to the APC.
Still on performances of the caretaker committee, some notable political heavy weights also defected to the party through its political savvy. Actualization of the maiden edition progressive youth conference, peaceful conduct of the ongoing party congress, etc, also elicited praises.
The group leaders passed a vote of confidence on the Chairman of caretaker committee, urging him to set agendas for APC Youth, Women and PWDs on the operations of the Northeast Development Commission (NEDC).
They revealed plans to set up a Committee to determine the stakes of APC Youth, Women and PWDs in the affairs of NEDC while calling on management of NEDC to involve the party in their programs.
