The Nigeria Police Force Is An Integral Component Of The Justice League For PWDs – James Lalu

At a sensitization workshop organized by the Director General of the National Institute of Police Studies, Prof.Olu Ogunsakin for senior Officers of the Nigeria Police Force, today in Abuja, the Executive Secretary, National Commission for Persons With Disabilities, Mr. James David Lalu underpinned the salient roles that the paramilitaries play in ensuring safety, peace and order in the society.

Head of media and publicity, NCPWD, Mbanefo JohnMichaels I. disclosed this to INN correspondent in a press statement on Tuesday.

While addressing Officers and Men of the Police Force on the “Strategic leadership Roles in Policing diverse societies”, Lalu highlighted diverse perspectives of the Persons With Disabilities based on their personal experience in the society.

He mentioned the commonalities of inclusion which revolves around Accessibility, Equality, Social Integration, Fundamental Human Rights and Dignity of PWDs.

The ES admonished the participants to use their positions and office to assist the PWD community. He also reiterated that the discrimination is not perculiar to Nigeria but also obtains in Sierra Leone.

He however, bemoaned some high ranking officers who refuse Persons with disabilities when they seek interventions in accessing justice.

The Director Syndicate, Nigeria Police Institute, Barrister Suleiman Balarabe Yahaya expressed his profound appreciation to the ES for the insightful lecture and promised to avail the NCPWD all the needed support.

In his response Dr. Emem O. Olutoke of the Institute also could not hold back her emotions as a result of the passion energized by the Executive Secretary. She said discrimination against Persons With Disabilities is a serious crime and must not be allowed to fester.

ACP Egbe Raymond of the X -Squard Awka Division,Anambra State restated that the lecture has opened him to new horizon on how best to carry out his obligation with consideration to Persons With disabilities. He therefore pledged to serve the society with a balanced mindset.

The lecture was chiefly to sensitize high ranking officers of the Police Force on strategic leadership roles in Policing Diverse Societies.
