Office of the Secretary to the Kano State Government has said it is committed to raising the living standards of Persons with Disabilities in the State.
This commitment was reiterated by the Permanent Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Musa Yahaya Bichi on Wednesday at a two-day workshop and Stakeholders engagement meeting with the Committee for implementation of Kano State Persons With Disability Law organized by Child Development Grant Program (CDGP) held in Jigawa State.
Representing the SSG, Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Usman noted that Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje signed the bill into law on the 4th of December 2018 and that there was an implementation framework drafted in collaboration with the Secretary to the State Government’s office.

According to him the meeting was aimed at reviewing the implementation framework in order to develop a road map and action plan to put the Disability Law in motion. It was also intended to provide helpful recommendations to the State Government.
In her opening remarks, CDGP’s Program Manager, Stella Esedunme explained that Organization aims at strengthening an “all inclusive” social protection system. Such a system, she pointed out underlies the need to ensure that PWDs are given opportunities to achieve their full potentials in life and society.
She then wished the participants fruitful deliberations.
Also speaking at the meeting was a representative of PERL who noted that inclusion is an important aspect of Governance across broad which, though initially neglected has been garnering awareness over the last few years. The representative also commended the Kano State Government for its remarkable Inclusive drive to elevate the quality of life of PWDs in the State.
