For Dana Air, there seems to be no end in sight to the war ignited by its discriminatory policy against passengers with disabilities.
Dr. Okogwu, a passenger on wheelchair and victim of the airline’s controversial policy for PWDs, has slapped a lawsuit of one billion naira on the air operator as damage for violation of rights and unprofessional conduct which led to a worsening of his health condition. Okogwu also demanded an unreserved apology to be published in at least, three (3) national newspapers as conditions for amicable resolution of his harrowing experience with the airline – failure to do, of which will attract legal action against Dana Air within 7 days.
This was disclosed in a letter addressed to Dana Air on behalf of the victim through his lawyer, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, SAN.
Other practitioners on the victim’s legal team for the drawn out battle with Dana Air are Rex Eramex and Co. , Rayfield Law firm, led by Rt. Hon. Bar. Chibudom Nwuche, a former Deputy Speaker and principal partner. Also, Dr. Kayode Olatoke, SAN and The Association of lawyers with Disabilities.
Recall that Dana Air allegedly discriminated against Dr. Chike Okogwu by denying him access to a scheduled flight because of his disability. The excuse was that passengers are not allowed to board a flight with a wheelchair. This situation soon got out of control as an enraged Dr. Chike was whisked off by security operatives.
On its part, Dana Air denied discriminating against Dr. Chike Okogwu who was prevented from boarding a scheduled flight because of his disability on December 20. Reiterating its stand, the air operator insists that it was a matter of policy, comfort and safety of their passengers.
