Persons With Disabilities Must Be Prioritized In Accessing COVID-19 Vaccinations – IDA

by Inclusive News Network

International Disabilities Alliance (IDA) has called on government, UN agencies and the private sector to give priority to Persons with Disabilities in accessing the COVID-19 Vaccinations.

It also advocated for free or low-cost vaccinations for all Persons with Disabilities and their support networks.

IDA made the call in a statement published on its website.

It also wants vaccination sites to be physically accessible and that assistance is provided for those who need it.

The statement read in part: “outreach is conducted to ensure that Persons with Disabilities know of the availability of vaccinations, and that all information is inclusive and accessible.

“Vaccination data must be disaggregated by age, gender and disability, and web-based services should be fully accessible and ensure confidentiality.

“Receiving the COVID-19 vaccination must be based on free and informed consent of Persons with Disabilities.

“Persons with disabilities and their representative organizations must participate in policy and planning on distribution of vaccinations.

“Organizations of Persons with Disabilities must become partners in the roll-out of information campaigns, reaching out to the most marginalized people and ensure their messages are clear, inclusive and accessible.”
