Office of the Anambra State Governor on Disability matters (OGDM) has expressed appreciation to Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano for providing employment for over 131 People with Disabilities in the State.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Special adviser to Gov. Obiano on Disability matters, Barr. Chuks Ezewuzie.
Ezewuzie expressed profound gratitude to the governor for approving the employment of 131 Persons with Disabilities, confirming that they were already picking their appointment letters.
Praise was heaped on the Governor for maintaining the tradition of giving out amazing Christmas gifts to the Disability Community since the inception of his administration.
Gov. Obiano, had on the 18th of December, 2018, signed into law, a bill for the protection of the rights and welfare of Persons with Disabilities, making Anambra State the only state in the south east with such legislation for PWDs.
Obiano repeated the same feat in December 2019, when he gave approval for the inclusion of a special choir, consisting of Persons with Disabilities, to perform at the State Carol of 9 lessons, where their performance mesmerized the entire State.
Now in December 2020, despite the economic recession occasioned by the covid-19 pandemic, Gov. Obiano approved the employment of over 131 Persons with Disabilities into the State civil service. Also, this year, the Governor gave approval for the establishment of the Disability rights law implementation committee.
Obiano has also co-opted a member of the disability community into the committee for the ongoing construction of the Anambra State International airport to ensure accessibility to all terminal buildings.
“We appreciate the uncommon show of benevolence and support by the Governor to Persons with Disabilities in the State who took the pains to acquire academic qualifications and now are being empowered with sustainable means of livelihood.” Ezewuzie said.
