Deaf Women Association of Nigeria (DWAN) Lagos State Chapter, is set to distribute Christmas palliative to Deaf women in Lagos state.

The Chairperson, Mrs. Isado Yemisi, who, on Friday, spoke to Inclusive News Network in an interview said the foodstuff palliative will be distributed to at least 60 women in Lagos state today.

The items include rice, garri, macaroni and cooking oil.

The group, she said, is expected to meet at the usual meeting venue in Bariga, Lagos.

Mrs. Isado acknowledged that a good number of these Deaf women don’t have a job and are financially unstable, hence buying foodstuffs to celebrate Christmas with their families poses a challenge.

She also commented on the adverse effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on several Deaf women in Lagos, adding that a huge percentage of these women and their children can not afford another lockdown in the second wave as they may not survive it.

“We want our members to be happy this Christmas. I want us to always be our sisters keepers. We should all learn to help ourselves”.

“It is important that we think about Disability in general because most times, focus seem to be more on people without Disabilities but we need all the help we can get, especially Deaf women.

“Always remember that we are not beggars”, concluded the DWAN Lagos boss.
