Ikorodu West Deaf Development Association Chairperson, Tosin Kuku has expressed his desire for life to be made easier for the community of Persons with Disabilities at Local Government Level across Lagos State.
Mr. Kuku, who spoke at length with our correspondent on the above topic also called for the eradication of poverty, discrimination and stigmatization of Persons with Disabilities in the 57 Local Government/Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State.
This, he made known in a statement released in commemoration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
Mr. Tosin, founder of Ikorodu West Deaf Development Association, recently got the body duly registered – precisely on the 9th of March this year. The Deaf Association chairman, in his brief, advised Hon. Princess Olajumoke Ademehin, LG boss at Ikorodu West to collaborate with other public spirited individuals and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) within the community to advocate for the rights of Persons with Disabilities.
He added “the powers that be at Ikorodu West LCDA should invite other Disability Cluster leaders in Ikorodu West community, listen to all their challenges and find lasting solutions while creating awareness about our rights within the locale.”
Tosin lauded Hon. Ademehin for being a loving and easy going mother in the community, noting in particular that she had interacted freely with the Deaf group within the community and had also learned a few signs, including the ubiquitous “I love you”.
He also charged the Ikorodu West LCDA to take immediate action to confront the challenges PWDs face and not neglect the needs and rights of Persons with Disabilities in the community.
