At least 163 persons with visual impairment are heaving a sigh of relief with hopes of having their sight restored as the Ogun State Government begun it’s medical outreach.
The outreach, held on Monday at the State capital in Abeokuta attracted scores of residents with one ailment or the other, who have been in search of such succor.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Omotomilola Coker said a survey was carried out in order to ascertain those with health challenges.
The commissioner said the survey showed that hundreds of indigenes in the State are challenged with visual difficulty and others with various health challenge.
“Therefore, we invited them all to Abeokuta North Local Government Area where we have some specialised Doctors readily available to run series of tests on them. After the tests on those with visual difficulty, the ones that have minor issues were 193 and were given correctional drugs, those who would need surgery were registered as well and amounted to 162 and a date for their operations was fixed,” Coker said.
The commissioner, during an interview with journalists, also disclosed that those with hearing impairment were given hearing aids, while persons with other difficulties were attended to and those that would need surgery to be done on them were given an appointment for it to be done.
After the programme ended, the beneficiaries heaved a sigh of relief knowing they are and would be a transformed individual and can now resonate equally with the society.
Coker also expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Health that supported with fund on the project and The Association of Resident Doctors, Doctors, Nurses and Pharmacists in the State who volunteered to do the medical outreach as a way of pledging their loyalty to the State and the country.
