In his efforts to encourage and promote Deaf education, the National President of NNAD Hon. Chidi Topaz Olujie has urged Deaf graduates to apply for this year’s Gallaudet-Nippon World Deaf Leadership (WDL) Scholarship opportunity.
The WDL Scholarship, according to Olujie, makes it possible for deaf and hard of hearing leaders from developing nations to attend Gallaudet University.
WDL, he said, aims to empower selected individuals through the knowledge, skills, and aspirations that a higher education brings so that they can make significant contributions to their deaf community and nation.
Olujie added that WDL is funded by the Nippon Foundation of Tokyo, Japan. Since making its debut in 2003, 17 WDL Scholarships have been awarded.
He said the scholarship covers tuition, room, board, and medical insurance, and provides an annual stipend for expenses such as books, supplies, laundry service, personal products, and local transportation.
The NNAD President also added that additional support for a WDL Scholar includes mentorship from a member of the Gallaudet University faculty and an internship in the scholar’s home country.
However, he noted that WDL Scholars graduate from Gallaudet must return home and work towards improving the lives of deaf people through education, advocacy, and partnering with different people and organizations.
He said interested graduates can apply via this link before the December 11, 2020 deadline.

Hello!
He forgot this Scholarships is very competitive. Deaf candidates from the world can apply this. At the end of evaluation or interview for a shortlist. In fact, many of them were qualified, but they selected Only one or two candidates. Not like other Scholarships, they selected one or two. It’s been practiced for over decades. That’s why some of us lost interesting to apply this Scholarships. We are looking to apply other scholarship apart from that school.
I really appreciate the information from this page
Hi @Patrick:
He is just sharing information. He did not forget anything.
Opportunities like this attract applicants from all over the world but only a few are selected each cycle/year.
Nippon Foundation also offers similar opportunities at National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID) – a College of Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT).
You should not give up because you were not selected.
Good morning to you
I apply scholarship for my study at Gallaudent University
I am very interesting
