Anambra State Bureau of Statistics, in its readiness to publish verifiable data of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the State, have asked the State Chapter of JONAPWD to assist in gathering comprehensive data of Persons with Disabilities in the State.
The Statistician General, Mr Emeka Paul Obiekezie made the request during an advocacy visit to his office by Joint National Association of Persons With Disabilities (JONAPWD) Anambra State chapter.
He noted that the Bureau has been at the fore-front of collecting data of ‘People living with different disabilities, he also highlighted the Bureau’s willingness to update its database of these people.
Mr. Obiekezie stressed that the visit was timely and very crucial as it will serve as official recognition of the bureau’s collaboration with JONAPWD. He therefore asked the team to assist in getting a comprehensive data of PWDs resident in the State.
He unequivocally maintained his readiness to publish any verifiable data presented to him in the bureau’s forthcoming publication. This, he noted, will be very useful information to the State in planning for her community of PWDs.
While responding, Comr. Ugochukwu Okeke of JONAPWD explained that the association has an ongoing data collection project of all PWDs in the State. According to him, the project is being funded by European Union RoLAC Project in Anambra. He promised to share outcomes of the exercise with the bureau for official publication on completion.
Earlier, JONAPWD Anambra State Chapter had identified with the Bureau of Statistics on the need to implement the Disability rights law 2018 as well as to demonstrate more inclusiveness on State and Local Government Budgeting.
