Chanchaga Local Government is set to appoint a Special Education Desk Officer for students with disabilities in Chanchaga, Niger state.
The Education Secretary of Chanchaga Local Government Area, Alhaji Balarabe Lawal Kagara said this while addressing representatives of National Association of Niger State Students (NANISS) national headquarters, who paid a disability awareness and advocacy visit to his office on Tuesday, 20 October.
Kagara, in his address said special education requires a lot of campaign and sensitization of the general public; and he encouraged students to see special education as an opportunity to became a Specialist teachers.
He emphasized on the importance of special education to the development of students with disabilities as well as training people who will be dedicated to the education and schooling of such students.
He demonstrated his readiness towards ensuring every child with a disability/disabilities has access to quality education.
The Education Secretary also advised members of the public to see the ability in disability and to encourage students with special needs.
With this, Kagara assured of the appointment of a Special education desk officer to ensure all students with disabilities receive an inclusive education accompanied by the required support systems to achieve their potentials.
NANISS had earlier said In a statement signed by its PRO that the Disability awareness and advocacy campaign was designed to sensitize the entire community on special educational services made available to learners with disabilities in the state.
He noted “It is to promote acceptance and inclusion of students with disabilities while edging towards a discrimination/stigma free society.
“Not all disabilities are visible, some go unnoticed though actually exist.”
