A deaf man in Diaspora, Kehinde Akinosi, has distributed food items to over 50 Deaf group in Badagry.
The distribution of the palliative was to cushion the effect of coronavirus pandemic affecting the wellbeing and means of livelihood of the Deaf community in Badagry.
The food items include two bags of rice, a bag of beans, one pack of spaghetti, and other provisions.
In a statement sent to Inclusive News Network, INN, Kehinde Akinosi, who provided the palliative asserted that it was to minimise hardships faced by deaf people in Badagry due to pandemic crisis and that he felt compelled to help.
Mr. Akinosi stated, “As the first and pioneer Deaf from Badagry growing Up in 60s when Badagry Town was relatively ‘small’ Township and virtually most people knew each other. Now the town has blossomed and more deaf people in Badagry town have surfaced. They need to be helped.”
When asked if he will help again in the future, he said, “I will definitely! By God’s special grace when things improve globally. We are facing challenges in USA too as foreigners and making the best of resources and opportunities to make it through life.”
The Chairman of Badagry Welfare Association of the Deaf (BWADEAF), Kehinde Akewusola thanked Mr. Akinosi on behalf of the members and stated that deaf people in Badagry need support to keep them healthy, we are focusing on providing them food relief package periodically.
According to Mr. Akewusola, ”Thanks to Mr. Kehinde Akinosi who provided us with some items include 2 bags of rice, a bag of beans, spaghetti, daily provisions and others for our members.”
Kehinde Michael Akinosi is deaf, formerly the Chairman, Lagos State Association of the Deaf and an indigene of Badagry who is currently residing in USA. He has been supporting deaf organisations and deaf churches in Nigeria.
“May God enrich his pocket richly.” Akewusola said.
While advising members to always wash hands regularly and use face mask, Akewusola appealed to government and good people of Badagry to come to the aid of the deaf community.
“No government thought of providing palliatives or any distribution of relief packages to the disability community in Badagry during the lockdown,” lamented Mr Akewusola.
“We appeal to government and badagry people to come to our aid by providing us relief packages and empower our members. Badagry Welfare Association of the deaf has its PREP purpose:
P — protectung the deaf people
R — respecting and advocating the rights of the deaf
E — Empower the deaf in all aspect of social life
P — promoting sign language and communication.” He said.
