The National Commission for Persons with Disability (NCPWD) has insisted that the Commission has come into existence following the nomination of members by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Reacting to a publication on Inclusive News Network, INN, where the Executive Director of Centre for Citizens with Disabilities Mr David O. Anyaele said the NCPWD was yet to come into existence as members had not been screened by the National Assembly, the NCPWD urged the general public in general and community of persons with disability in particular to disregards in totality the contents of the publication and the context it was made.
It insisted that the processes of establishing the National Commission for Persons with Disability is properly encapsulated in sections of the Discrimination Against Persons with Disability (Prohibition) Act 2018.
“Ranging from Pronouncement of the Executive Secretary, Board Chairman and other Members by the President, Screening of Board Members by the senate and other activities thereof.
“The Commission wishes to inform the public that in line with relevant sections of Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act 2018, legal practices and governance structures of Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Singular act of Pronouncing the Executive Secretary and board members by the President and Commander-in-chief, the Commission is Established.
“While the Commission graciously await the screening and confirmation of the Board Members, the Executive Secretary and other Career Civil servants deployed to the Commission who are in-charge of the administrative day to day running of the Commission remain Focus and poised to deliver on their mandate to Persons with Disability in Nigeria and cannot be distracted by any element.”
“Also, while the Commission recognized the person and personality of Mr David Anyaele and will not like to join issues with him, the Commission advice Mr David to seek proper knowledge of the Act establishing the Commission, the appointment and governance structures of agencies and parastatals of government in Nigeria to avoid misleading the Public and creating unnecessary tension,” the statement on the NCPWD official Facebook page read.
