The deaf community in Osun State in partnership with Osun State Community and Social Development Project (OSUN CSDP) now has a new centre for vocational and entrepreneurial training in Osun.
The Centre, with the assistance of the partner, Osun-CSDP, has also acquired a Suzuki Mini Bus which will be used for transportation business to generate income.
Osun Deaf Centre, established in December 2019, is a multipurpose building which serves as a place of meeting as well as skills acquisition centre for the Deaf youths and adults in the State.
The centre provides vocational and entrepreneurial training to deaf and general public in order to empower them economically and enable them to be self reliant and self employed.

It provides vocational training in areas such as Computer Training, Catering, Fashion Designing, Hair Dressing, Barbering, Shoe Making, Bag Making, Welding and Plumbing works.
The Chairperson of Osun-CSDP, Agatha Olaniyi in a statement sent to Inclusive News Network, INN stated that the construction and equipping of the centre was co-funded by the Osun State Government through Osun Community and Social Development Project (Osun-CSDP), the World Bank and Osun State Deaf Community.
INN learnt that the Deaf Community in Osun contributed 5% of the cost of the project.
“Suffice here to also acknowledge our people and well wishers both at home and in the Diasporas who identified with us towards the successful takeoff of the centre.” Olaniyi said.
The Centre had on Tuesday, acquired a Suzuki Mini Bus with the assistance of the partner, Osun-CSDP.
The bus is a product of the proposal submitted to Osun-CSDP by Osun Deaf community.
After building and equipping the centre. The Deaf community had approached the agency for the bus. Fortunately, the proposal was approved. The community contributed 5 percent of the total cost as usual. The 5% contribution for the bus was paid from the balance of the remaining cash from another project.
“The Bus will be used for transportation business. We target the acquisition of 50 Suzuki Mini Buses in nearest future for transportation business.” Olaniyi added.
“We envision that profit realised from the centre would be used to maintain and sustain the centre, assist our members as well as for expansion of projects.”
While calling for partnership, collaboration and exchange programmes with national and international organisations and institutions, Olaniyi stated that it needs borehole and solar electricity to complete the building
“At present, the centre needs borehole and Solar Electricity. The deep well that is the main source of water for the centre presently doesn’t have adequate water because there is a rock under the building. We also need Solar Electricity to solve our electricity challenges.”
“We crave for and welcome partnership, collaboration and exchange programmes with National and International organisations and institutions in training, development and support so that the centre can efficiently and effectively position itself to tremendously impact the live of Deaf people and general population of our State.”
