Deaf Politician Wants Buhari To Consider PWDs For Appointment In All Sectors

…Thanks President for Establishing National Disability Commission

A deaf politician and member of APC National Campaign Council for Ondo State Guber Election, Haruna Tsafe has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for the establishment of National Disability Commission for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) just as he called on the President to consider PWDs in all sectors of his administration.

Tsafe spoke during a press conference/declaration campaign for Chidi Olujie/Haruna Tsafe as President/Vice President of Nigeria National Association of the Deaf (NNAD) held on Friday in Lagos.

He said that Buhari’s government has shown its commitment to run an all-inclusive government by first signing the Disability Act into law and now appointed Board Members and Executive Secretary expected to pilot the affairs of the NDC.

He said “We thank Mr. President Buhari for the establishment of People with Disability into National Disability Commission (NDC). We thank him and we want him to do more to consider people with Disability in all sectors of life” he added.

Also speaking at the event, Financial Secretary of NNAD, Muyiwa Timothy Afolayan while thanking the President, said the establishing of the NDC was long overdue, considering the many years of struggle to see it materialize.

“It’s long overdue. We have been struggling for this for a while now. We are alive using our eyes to see and witness this and for those who are there controlling it from the Deaf and disabled community. We have agreed that those who are there are only there.

“Not only them but all of us are there because everything that will be done there will be discussed with all Disability community especially stakeholders. Those who struggled to bring it to reality are not in the committee that was established. The Executive Secretary that was appointed by the President is also part of the struggle. He knows in and out of what people wants and we keep on talking and we have to bring this out. Without which, he knows that it can’t go well with him,” Afolayan said.
