The National Orientation Agency (NOA) and the Centre for Citizens with Disabilities organized a training workshop for government ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) and the private sector on the National Disability Act of 2018. The workshop was designed to help participants understand the provisions of the Act and their specific roles in ensuring its full implementation.
Despite the efforts made to promote the implementation of the Disability Act since it was signed into law, there is still a low level of compliance and implementation across all sectors. This has led to persons with disabilities being excluded from community events, unable to access buildings, healthcare facilities, and transportation, and facing discrimination in many areas of their lives.
In light of this, the National Orientation Agency is holding this forum to show its commitment to ensuring that Nigerians are sufficiently mobilized to embrace disability inclusion.
The National Disability Act 2018 is a Nigerian law that was enacted to protect the rights of persons with disabilities (PWDs). The Act provides for the full integration of PWDs into society and establishes the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) to oversee the implementation of the Act.
