In pursuant of section 29 of the Disability (2018) Law, the Executive Secretary, National Commission for Persons With Disabilities, Mr. James David Lalu has reiterated the position of the Commission on defaulters who fail to abide by the 5% provision for employments of Persons With Disabilities in Nigeria.
The Executive Secretary who was represented by Comrade Musa Muazu Musa at Human Rights Radio 101.1fm on the Brekete family program today 12th October, 2023 gave a breakdown of the number of Persons With Disabilities that have been employed in various government offices.
“As at today, over a hundred Persons With Disabilities are on the payroll of the National Commission for Persons With Disabilities” he said.
According to him, most of these employees have become breadwinners of their families.
He, however, informed that the Commission would soon commence enforcement on those who do not obey the express affirmation in the Discrimination against Persons With Disabilities 2018 (Prohibition Act) law upon the expiration of the 5 year moratorium in January, 2024.
The Assistant Director, Human Resources Management, NCPWD Mr. Idowu Iwere equally stated that Persons With Disabilities should endeavor to register with the Commission through the website on www. ncpwd.ng.org where their information would be uploaded for further engagement and job placement.
