As a way of finding out the true state of welfare of students with disabilities in Ekiti, His Excellency Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji had on Saturday 13th paid an unscheduled visit to Special School for the Blind, Ikere Ekiti.
Mr Governor did a thorough check on the school’s facilities; dormitories, clinic ,class rooms , offices, computer laboratory, kitchen including their meal which has just been freshly prepared and then a meeting with the students and teachers in their hall followed.
During the meeting, Mr Governor assured the special students of full support and attention as a Governor. He thanked the teachers and the guardians for their beautiful work. Having said a lot, he gave room for the students to make request.
The students requested from the Governor a sponsorship of some of their fellow students who applied for a training program in Lagos. Hearing this, Mr Governor personally paid for the training instantly to avoid the students going through a long official process and the excitement was seen on the students’ faces.
Oyebanji also brought loads of food items and other gifts along during the visit.
