Meet Isyaku Hassan as he shares inspiring story to encourage others:

I lost my hearing before I attained the age of 5 as a result of a brief illness. My family tried their very best to ensure that I regained my hearing by taking me to different hospitals and herbalists across the North West states but to no avail. After the incidence, I spent four years at home without been enrolled in school.

I commenced my primary education at the age of 9 years in January 1994 and completed it in 1999 at Government school for the Deaf Malumfashi, Katsina state. I had my Junior secondary education between 1999 and 2002 at the same school. Upon completion, I proceeded to Government Technical College, Malali, Kaduna, Kaduna State for my senior secondary education in January 2003 till June 2005 where I wrote my SSCE in the Department of civil engineering.

After a short while I proceeded to Kaduna Polytechnic for my Diploma programme in Rehabilitative Science between May 2006 and September 2007. A year after my Diploma, I got an appointment with Kankara Local Government to teach at Government School for the Deaf Malumfashi on casual basis for three years before I got a permanent appointment with Katsina State Ministry of Education in June 2011. In the same year I got an admission with Bayero University Kano where I studied B.A (Ed) Special Education majoring in political science till December 2015.

My stay at Government Technical College Malali, Kaduna State (a mainstream school) offered me the opportunity to interact with hearing students and develop me for social inclusion. It exposed me to different educational experiences, one of which is programme at Educational Empowerment Consults, Kaduna that channeled my course into teaching. Today I have developed myself and acquired useful skills in teaching, travelling and farming.
