Hope Beckons As Deaf Women Leadership Focus On Creating Strategic Synergies

by Ogheneruemu Alexander

A beacon of a better tomorrow for the Nigerian Deaf woman could be sensed in the horizon on Tuesday 23, August 2022 at the Annual General Meeting and Women Summit of the Deaf Women Association of Nigeria (DWAN).

The event held at the exclusive Chida International Hotels, Jabi, Abuja, had in attendance seasoned professionals and top functions from Government, civil society and private sectors – all converged with one aim: “To further the cause of DWAN”.

It was obvious from outcomes of the occasion that the current crop of the Association’s leadership led by Mrs Hellen Anurika Beyioku-Alase are “walking the talk” for a better tomorrow for Deaf women in Nigeria.

In Hellen’s words: “We shall create awareness, exchange ideas, build capacity and establish synergies with relevant organizations to address issues of marginalization, violation and discrimination against Deaf women and girls”.

Proofs of the DWAN President’s words were evidenced by the level of networking and exchange of ideas with movers and shakers of society at the event.

With all optimism, DWAN is moving today towards a brighter tomorrow.
